SUMMARY:Race to Resilience from Pledges to Implementation – Launch of the 2025 Progress Report
DESCRIPTION:For the first time\, the Race to Resilience progress report presents cumulative results on implementation\, showing resilience in practice beyond pledges and plans. The report highlights farmers accessing climate loans\, communities receiving early warnings\, homes strengthened against storms\, and reefs restored to protect coastlines. Five years into the Decade of Delivery\, these achievements come as climate impacts intensify\, threatening livelihoods\, ecosystems\, and development. Aligned with the COP30 Action Agenda and the Global Goal on Adaptation\, the Race to Resilience campaign mobilizes non-State actors to deliver tangible outcomes. Halfway to 2030\, nearly 500 million people are now living with greater resilience. \n\n\n\nCo-Hosts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nMaria Alejandra Aguilar\, Campaign Manager\, Race to Resilience\n\n\n\nGonzalo Muñoz\, Climate High-Level Champion for COP25\n\n\n\nLaura Ramajo\, Project Manager and Resilience Research Lead\, RtR Technical Secretariat\, Center for Climate and Resilience Research (CR2)\n\n\n\nJesper Hornberg\, CEO\, Global Resilience Partnership\n\n\n\nDr Kate Strachan\, Race to Resilience Culture\, ICLEI Africa\n\n\n\nAlbert Salamanca\, Lead\, Adaptation Research Alliance\n\n\n\nEmily Landis\, Climate Adaptation & Resilience Director\, The Nature Conservancy\n\n\n\nMarco Billi\, Lead RtR Technical Secretariat\, CR2\n\n\n\nSavina Carluccio\, Exectuive Director\, International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure\n\n\n\nChris Armitage\, CEO\, Global Evergreening Alliance\n\n\n\nJuliana Reis\, Coordinator for Climate Change\, SEAMA/ES\n\n\n\nJohan Rockström\, Director\, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research & Race to Resilience Global Ambassador

SUMMARY:Is philanthropy ready to catalyse climate-resilient economies?
DESCRIPTION:While global adaptation finance flows are rising\, they fall far short of what is required. Less than a tenth of climate finance is dedicated towards adaptation and even less towards vulnerable communities\, such as smallholder farmers\, risking food security\, financial stability and prosperity. Philanthropic capital can be the game‑changer where risks are deemed too high\, and markets are slow to move. It also has more flexibility and patience as opposed to other types of capital. Nevertheless\, there are many challenges to this\, that include the need for stronger collaborations among different types of actors/donors and the fact that policy-practice and science are still acting in silos\, preventing truly systemic approaches to resilience. This session aims to unpack concrete examples of philanthropic capital as a catalyst\, discuss how these solutions can be replicated and scaled and reflect on the role of science in providing evidence-based guidance to support the enabling of resilience approaches. \n\n\n\nCo-Hosts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nCibele Queiroz\, Director of Knowledge\, Researcher\, Global Resilience Partnership & Stockholm Resilience Centre\n\n\n\nMelanie Robinson\, Global Director of Climate\, Economics and Finance\, WRI\n\n\n\nMatt Eldridge\, Advisor\, Climate Finance\, Gates Foundation\n\n\n\nDr Tabea Lissner\, Director\, Climate Change\, Robert Bosch Foundation\n\n\n\nFrancis Bouchard\, Managing Director Climate\, Marsh McLennan\n\n\n\nWendy Broadgate\, Global Hub Director (Sweden)\, Future Earth\n\n\n\nPaula Leandro-Quitas\, Vice President Collective Intelligence & Flagships\, BMW Foundation\n\n\n\nJorge Gastelumendi\, Senior Director\, Atlantic Council Climate Resilience Center\n\n\n\nAlice de Moraes Amorim Vogas\, Program Director of the COP30 Presidency

SUMMARY:New Structures for Adaptation Finance: Aligning the Global\, National and the Local
DESCRIPTION:High Level event \n\n\n\nClimate-vulnerable economies are bearing the brunt of intensifying climate impacts. Rising sea levels\, floods\, droughts\, and shifting weather patterns threaten lives\, livelihoods\, and economies. At present\, public institutions account for the overwhelming majority of adaptation finance\, with private investment making up less than 3%. To address this imbalance\, various nationally and internationally driven initiatives are upping ambition for adaptation. They operate across varying scales as they aim to tackle silos and gaps which can prevent finance from reaching the needs of the most vulnerable. This session will focus on the features of these initiatives and ask questions such as: What are the key success factors of these initiatives? How can they align or complement each other against the backdrop of shrinking public resources by increasing needs? For new and emerging structures\, how can they draw synergies and create the adaptation finance architecture of tomorrow? \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nSabrina Bachrach\, Atlantic Council\n\n\n\nDebbie Palmers\, Climate and Environment Director\, FCDO\n\n\n\nFerruccio Santetti\, Strategy Lead GGGI\n\n\n\nJorge Gastelmundi\, Senior Director\, Atlantic Council\n\n\n\nAmanda McKee\, NDCP\n\n\n\nLiz Henderson\, Global Head\, Climate Risk Advisory AON\n\n\n\nMr. AKM Sohel\, Additional Secretary\, Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership\n\n\n\nNicholas Taylor\, Sustainable Development and Resilience\, GGGI\n\n\n\nSarisher Mann\, Director\, Sustainable Finance Engagement\, BNP Paribas

SUMMARY:Beyond Warnings: Pre-arranging Financing to Outpace Disasters
DESCRIPTION:The international crisis financing system is fragmented and not configured to meet current or future crisis financing demands effectively. Despite advances in early warning systems and climate risk modeling\, finance is too often reactive\, fragmented\, and late. This session will provide an early view of new research on the use of pre-arranged finance\, looking at trends in triggerable finance globally. It will then explore how triggers can be used to transform early warnings to early action to protect people\, economies and nature. By blending science\, technology\, and finance—from AI-enhanced forecasting\, to innovative risk transfer instruments\, to anticipatory action pilots in agriculture\, coral reefs\, and fragile ecosystems—the session will spotlight models that move beyond theory into scalable\, investable solutions. \n\n\n\nCo-Hosts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nBen Webster\, Associate Director\, Centre for Disaster Protection\n\n\n\nViola Otieno\, Early Warning and Early Action Expert\, African Union Commission\n\n\n\nMichele Plichta\, Senior Researcher\, Centre for Disaster Protection\n\n\n\nGiriraj Amarnath\, Research Group Leader\, International Water Management Institute\n\n\n\nAndrew Lala\, CEO\, Ignitia\n\n\n\nChristina Rodríguez\, Director General of Climate Change and Desertification\, Ministry of Environment\, Peru\n\n\n\nRitu Bhardwaj\, Director\, Climate Resilience\, Finance\, and Loss and Damage\, IIED\n\n\n\nCatalina Jamie\, Head of Secretariat\, Risk-Informed Early Action Partnership\n\n\n\nStefan Uhlenbrook\, Director Hydrology\, Water and Cryosphere\, WMO\n\n\n\nGerard Howe\, Head of the Adaptation\, Nature and Resilience Department\, FCDO
