SUMMARY:Beyond Warnings: Pre-arranging Financing to Outpace Disasters
DESCRIPTION:The international crisis financing system is fragmented and not configured to meet current or future crisis financing demands effectively. Despite advances in early warning systems and climate risk modeling\, finance is too often reactive\, fragmented\, and late. This session will provide an early view of new research on the use of pre-arranged finance\, looking at trends in triggerable finance globally. It will then explore how triggers can be used to transform early warnings to early action to protect people\, economies and nature. By blending science\, technology\, and finance—from AI-enhanced forecasting\, to innovative risk transfer instruments\, to anticipatory action pilots in agriculture\, coral reefs\, and fragile ecosystems—the session will spotlight models that move beyond theory into scalable\, investable solutions. \n\n\n\nCo-Hosts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nBen Webster\, Associate Director\, Centre for Disaster Protection\n\n\n\nViola Otieno\, Early Warning and Early Action Expert\, African Union Commission\n\n\n\nMichele Plichta\, Senior Researcher\, Centre for Disaster Protection\n\n\n\nGiriraj Amarnath\, Research Group Leader\, International Water Management Institute\n\n\n\nAndrew Lala\, CEO\, Ignitia\n\n\n\nChristina Rodríguez\, Director General of Climate Change and Desertification\, Ministry of Environment\, Peru\n\n\n\nRitu Bhardwaj\, Director\, Climate Resilience\, Finance\, and Loss and Damage\, IIED\n\n\n\nCatalina Jamie\, Head of Secretariat\, Risk-Informed Early Action Partnership\n\n\n\nStefan Uhlenbrook\, Director Hydrology\, Water and Cryosphere\, WMO\n\n\n\nGerard Howe\, Head of the Adaptation\, Nature and Resilience Department\, FCDO

SUMMARY:Seeding Enterprise: Enabling Environment for Private Sector Action on Climate Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Private sector is not a homogenous entity as often described in mainstream discourse on climate resilience. The focus of most climate action discourse on private sector action is on the role of big business. However\, private sector also entails big and small-holder farmers\, intermediary actors like small traders\, small and medium enterprises\, and other forms of local\, regional\, national and global businesses. \nWhile the role of development aid finance has been recognised as critical to climate action\, increasingly\, blended finance has become a focus to unlock innovation in climate resilience. This session focuses on different models of catalysing\, enabling and driving private sector action for resilience. \n \n \nCo-Hosts\n\nGRP\nICIMOD\nGeneral Motors\nABt Global\nCalifornia\, Office of the Secretary of Natural Resources\nBCG\niDE

SUMMARY:Implementing NDC 3.0: Actionable Collaboration for a Sustainable Future in Competitive Economies
DESCRIPTION:With NDC 3.0 on the horizon\, governments are being called on to heighten the ambition of their targets in support of the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. However\, in an era of rapid economic change and stagnation risks\, decarbonisation can be challenging\, yet fundamental\, particularly for the “hardest-to-abate” parts of economies that seek to remain competitive. There are several strategies that governments can employ\, in partnership with the private sector and other stakeholders\, to create decarbonisation pathways that support both economic competitiveness and inclusive prosperity. Doing so requires continuous dialogue and new ways of working between governments and the private sector. \nThis session will examine the challenges and opportunities of setting\, implementing and financing ambitious climate plans. We will explore best-practice global examples of policies\, catalytic and de-risking interventions and public private sector collaboration models that can support the implementation of more ambitious and holistic NDC plans. \n \n \nCo-host\n\nPwC\n\n\nSupporting resources\n\nBuild on bridging the gap

SUMMARY:Strengthening Water and Food Systems Resilience in National Climate Commitments
DESCRIPTION:This high-level roundtable will serve as a follow-up conversation between Parties and key Partners\, focusing on the integration of food and water systems into updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). Building on the outcomes of last year’s UAE Consensus and the High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Building Water-Resilient Food Systems at COP28\, where many Parties committed to enhancing linkages between water and food in their national planning processes\, the session will provide a platform for Parties to share progress\, challenges\, and best practices in addressing the water-food nexus within their updated climate commitments. Key stakeholders\, including the Partnership on Water-Resilient Food Systems\, international organisations and the private sector\, will offer insights into solutions and collaborative opportunities to support Parties in this integration process. The roundtable aims to foster deeper cross-sectoral cooperation\, identify key areas for capacity building and support\, and generate actionable recommendations for enhanced NDCs and NAPs. \n \n \nCo-Hosts\n\nPartnership on Water Resilient Food Systems\nGRP\nAGWA\nAlluvium & Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC)
