With NDC 3.0 on the horizon, governments are being called on to heighten the ambition of their targets in support of the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. However, in an era of rapid economic change and stagnation risks, decarbonisation can be challenging, yet fundamental, particularly for the “hardest-to-abate” parts of economies that seek to remain competitive. There are several strategies that governments can employ, in partnership with the private sector and other stakeholders, to create decarbonisation pathways that support both economic competitiveness and inclusive prosperity. Doing so requires continuous dialogue and new ways of working between governments and the private sector.
This session will examine the challenges and opportunities of setting, implementing and financing ambitious climate plans. We will explore best-practice global examples of policies, catalytic and de-risking interventions and public private sector collaboration models that can support the implementation of more ambitious and holistic NDC plans.
