The session brings a diverse group of speakers from Africa (Nigeria) and Asia (Bangladesh) to share their work and experience in nature and biodiversity conservation efforts, an area greatly impacted by the dire consequences of climate change. Throughout the session, there would be a comprehensive discussion on capitalizing on youths’ roles and leadership in conservation and preventing land degradation, the importance of positioning indigenous people and local communities as key actors in adaptation strategies, and most importantly exploring ways for directing and localizing funds for nature. It will examine how rights-based protection and restoration of ecosystems and biodiversity can be integrated into climate and biodiversity policies, including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), and climate finance mechanisms.
