New Structures for Adaptation Finance: Aligning the Global, National and the Local

12 November @ 10:45 am 12:00 pm Brazil

High Level event

Climate-vulnerable economies are bearing the brunt of intensifying climate impacts. Rising sea levels, floods, droughts, and shifting weather patterns threaten lives, livelihoods, and economies. At present, public institutions account for the overwhelming majority of adaptation finance, with private investment making up less than 3%. To address this imbalance, various nationally and internationally driven initiatives are upping ambition for adaptation. They operate across varying scales as they aim to tackle silos and gaps which can prevent finance from reaching the needs of the most vulnerable. This session will focus on the features of these initiatives and ask questions such as: What are the key success factors of these initiatives? How can they align or complement each other against the backdrop of shrinking public resources by increasing needs? For new and emerging structures, how can they draw synergies and create the adaptation finance architecture of tomorrow?
